Ski Cooper
Cooper is one of those areas with the 'old school' look and feel. Smaller and more low key than the mega-resorts, a visitor will find nice skiing in a relaxed atmosphere.
Location and elevation bring great snow to Ski Cooper, so the skiing here is on an all natural surface. And you can log plenty of runs since lift lines are never a problem. Looking for a truly unique and exciting experience? Sign up for the Chicago Ridge Backcountry Tour. A snowcat will get you to 2400 acres of untracked terrain.
Parking is available at the base of the ski area, and you can walk to the lodge or the lifts. Tickets, lessons, or ski packages are priced to offer a good value for a day on the slopes.
There are complete facilities at Ski Copper - ski school and shop, rental, lockers, and cafeteria. Also, check out the Tennessee Pass Cookhouse. Beautiful views and excellent food make for a dining experience you'll still be talking about long after the lifts shut down for the season.
As long as you're in the neighborhood drive by Camp Hale, World War II training facility of the 10th Mountain Division, where the Colorado ski industry was born.
Also, be sure to grab a meal or a drink in historic Leadville. The town also offers many reasonable lodging options, close to Ski Cooper, and within a reasonable drive to Vail or Copper Mountain.
