Vail
Vail Colorado is a town known around the world. Skiing made the name famous, but the residents, and frequent visitors, will tell you the region is far more than a ski resort. This is a great place to live, work and visit no matter what the season. A pleasant climate, friendly people, and the spectacular Colorado outdoors make Vail a premier location to guest and resident alike.
The history of Vail is unique. Vail truly is the birthplace of the Colorado ski industry as we know it today. Many of the Colorado ski towns were old mining centers, in most cases, almost forgotten before the discovery of 'white gold'. Vail rose with the resort, started in 1962, and was incorporated as a town in 1966. Nearby is Camp Hale, training ground of the famous 10th Mountain Division. Veterans of the 10th Mountain first saw the potential for a world class resort here, and after the war returned to make the vision a reality. From there we have Vail, and from Vail the other great resorts around the state.
Vail is a well managed community with outstanding municipal services, and over 1,100 acres of preserved open space. In conjunction with the White River National Forest, and other public lands there is hiking, biking, camping, fishing all over the valley region, and an often overlooked alpine lake.
Vail is also a town of shops, restaurants and entertainment. Former President Gerald Ford made his home here after leaving the White House, and the outdoor amphitheater is named in his honor.
Ski season, or any season, Vail is a great place to be.
